What is the most expensive part of a CE marked filter housing with flanges?

Filter Housing with Flanges and CE Mark

Have you ever wondered what pushes the price of a CE marked filter housing with flanges up? You might be surprised to find out it’s the welding process. Not only is this an additional process in the production but it also then requires its own approval.

Filter Housing Product Development

The engineers and development team at Classic Filters are continuously looking to improve products and where possible, efficiencies, that we can pass on in the way of price savings. It was during one of our reviews that the welding process was questioned.

“It just occurred to us” explains Ian Bovington “that if we could design something that was weld free, then the whole welding process plus the costly additional documentation, approvals and testing for CE marking would be eliminated.”

The solution?

“Well” Ian went on to say “we created a housing where the heads are machined from solid stainless steel bar. The result being that SBF flanged housings from Classic Filters are designed weld-free.”

The new design has resulted in significant cost saving and a faster delivery time.

Various flange types and pressure ratings are offered as standard, including –

  • ASME/ANSI B16.5 – 1996 – Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings
  • British Standard BS 4504 – Section 3.1:1989 – Circular Flanges for Pipes, Valves and Fittings
  • SAE J 518 C – SAE flanges standard.

Special designs are also available, so if you need an unconventional or bespoke filter housing – no problem! Our skilled designers and engineers will work alongside you to build a custom-made solution that suits your needs.
