Do we make filters for natural gas vehicles?

Yes. Alongside our stainless steel CNG dispenser filters, Classic Filters manufactures a dedicated Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) range for the gas system on the vehicle itself. Housings and coalescing cartridges sit before and after the pressure regulator.

The full NGV product range lives on our sister site ngvfilters.com. If you found us on classicfilters.com first, this is the short answer.

NGV filters are not the same as CNG dispenser filters

We already write about high-pressure coalescing housings for compressed natural gas dispensers, the filling units on the forecourt. Those are typically 316L stainless steel, CE-marked under the Pressure Equipment Directive, and rated for the dispenser line. See our CNG filters application page and the post do we manufacture CNG filters?

NGV filters do a different job. They protect the vehicle fuel system: one stage upstream of the regulator (high pressure) and one stage downstream (low pressure). The housings are anodised 6082 aluminium, machined from solid billet in England, and the high-pressure units are tested to ECE Regulation 110 with a burst margin of at least 4:1.

High pressure, before the regulator

High-pressure NGV housings go on the line before the pressure regulator. They take out liquid aerosols and solid particles so the regulator internals stay clean. Working pressure is up to 250 bar. Ports are 1/4″ NPT or SAE-6, with a stainless steel SAE-6 drain plug. Two coalescing cartridge styles fit the range: AAC126 and AAP126. Data sheets are on the NGV literature page.

Low pressure, after the regulator

Low-pressure NGV housings sit after the regulator. They coalesce any remaining liquid and catch solids so the engine or downstream components get a clean, dry supply. Working pressure is up to 35 bar (AAC214 and AAC224 series). Port options include 1/4″ and 1/2″ NPT, SAE-6, SAE-8 and metric M18x1.5. Drain choices are a stainless SAE-6 plug or a manual twist drain valve.

The NGV filter cartridges are disposable bonded borosilicate microfibre elements. Void volume is over 90%, so pressure drop stays low and service life is long. Two-layer coalescing media with a silica binder give 99.97% or 95% removal of 0.3 micron aerosols and droplets, and the same efficiency on solids. Sizes follow industry standards, so the housings and cartridges interchange with other NGV systems built on those dimensions.

Examples from the range: 12.57.CPxCS (moulded Nitrile open-end seal and moulded closed end) for high pressure, and 25.127.xCS.R (extruded polyethylene outer support mesh) for low pressure.
